Gary Allen Davis, age 79, passed away at home in Rapid City, South Dakota, on Jan. 28, 2025, with his family by his side.  Gary was born April 14, 1945, in Rocky Point, Wyoming.

Gary grew up in Newcastle, Wyoming, and graduated from Newcastle High School, Class of 1963. He worked at the sawmill in Newcastle, oil fields, coal mines in Hanna, Wyoming, Wyoming State Penitentiary in Rawlins, Wyoming, and Sinclair oil refinery. He operated and worked on Drill Rigs in Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Montana, California and Utah.   

Gary spent most of his life in Hanna and Rawlins. In 2006, he moved to Rapid City, and lived there until his passing.

Gary is preceded in death by his father, Rodney Lorenzo Davis; his mother, Mary Davis; brothers, Larry, Loren, Ted; and his sisters, Diane and Dixie.

Gary is survived by his two sons, Shawn A. Davis of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Gary K. Davis and his wife Lucy Davis of Arizona; nine grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Gary enjoyed riding his motorcycle and driving his Jeep. He loved the mountains, the Denver Broncos, traveling, reading, he was an excellent mechanic and he enjoyed spending time with his dear friend, Cheri, working on home improvements, long talks with his son Gary about history and politics, and enjoyed his daughter-in-law Lucy’s cooking. He enjoyed playing pool on his iPad and playing cribbage. He absolutely loved his dog Neo, and sure missed his late dog, Precious.

He will be missed by family and friends that knew and loved him.

A private family celebration of service will be held at a later date.
