–Nov. 2, 2024

On Nov. 2, 2024, Garry Nelson went to be with the Lord Jesus. Many will remember Garry for his witty personality and his “cowboy sense of humor.”

Garry was a cowboy, an artist, a horse-shoer — he never liked being called a “farrier” — and he was a friend to many.

Garry spent the earlier years of his life working for stock contractor Cotton Rosser following the rodeo circuit and riding saddle broncs, the latter being his passion.

Recently Garry recounted that when he would fall asleep at night he would dream that he was “in the chute on a bronc,” and that he was waiting for the gate to swing open so he could ride! Then he said, “But I’d be the same age I am right now! Can you believe it? They don’t let guys my age ride buckin’ horses!” When asked, “What happened next?” Garry replied, “Thank goodness they never pulled the gate!”

Then he would smile.

Garry is survived by his wife, Teena Nelson; Garry Ernist (Ernie) Nelson, Casey Nelson; brother, Len Nelson; and niece, Raylene Naveran.

Garry will be missed by all his friends but we are so thankful that he is with Jesus and hopefully riding again!

A memorial service will be held at Gateway Fellowship Church, 12 Old Hwy. 85 in Newcastle, Wyoming, 82701 at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7.

Wear your hat and boots — sure hope you can attend!
