Funding necessary
Funding necessary
Dear Editor,
I had just indicated to our Editor that I would “lighten-up” on my letters. Then the shooting in El Paso happened!
It has been said before but I must repeat: “Thoughts and prayers for the survivors are a damn poor substitute for the victims of such atrocities.”
Some few years ago a popular President terminated Federal Funding for Mental Health which caused the closing of many psychiatric Hospitals. Oh Joy! We are cutting down on the federal spending of those spend-thrift politicians! Having adequate Mental Health funding would neither prevent all gun violence nor all homeless problems. But, it would, at least, make a dent in the problems. It might even motivate some state politicians to seriously consider taking up the cause of some citizen-centric problems.
