Cowgirls Log Multiple Career-Best Times on Day Two

HOUSTON, Texas (2/20/25) – The University of Wyoming women’s swimming and diving team claimed its first individual MW title and turned in multiple personal-best performances on Thursday, the second day of the 2025 Mountain West Conference Championships.

After day two, Wyoming is currently in sixth place with 321 points.

Coming off breaking the school record earlier this morning in the preliminaries of the 500-yard freestyle, freshman Macey Hansen re-broke the record by swimming a 4:41.56 to claim her first Mountain West Championship title. In the B Final, Maisyn Klimczak finished in eighth with a time of 5:01.53. In the C Final, Ellie Fritscher took seventh with a time of 5:02.82. 

The 200-yard IM was the next event of the night, with three Cowgirls competing in the finals. Kayla Cunningham took sixth in the A Final, going a career-best 2:00.50, which moves her to fourth all-time at UW. In the C Final, Sydney Metzler took first with a time of 2:02.53 and Brynlee Busskohl finished in seventh, swimming a time of 2:05.98.

In the B Final of the 50-yard freestyle, Tara Joyce came in first with a career-best 22.75, which moves her to fifth all-time, and Rachael Horne came in third with a career-best 22.95, which puts her at ninth all-time. In the C Final, Mikayla Moore finished in sixth, going 23.29, and Lauren Swartz finished in eighth with a time of 23.45.

Two Cowgirl divers qualified for the finals in the 3-meter springboard. Gabriella Haigler finished in seventh with a score of 286.65 and Natalie Six came in eighth with a score of 277.55.

In the final event of day two, the Cowgirl 400-yard medley relay team of Metzler, Busskohl, Kali Franckowiak and Joyce tied with CSU for sixth place, logging a time of 3:38.36.

Day three of the 2025 Mountain West Conference Championships starts tomorrow with preliminaries at 9:30 a.m. and finals beginning at 5 p.m.

Day One Recap

Alicia Gonzalez was the first Cowgirl to reach the podium after she took third in the 1-meter springboard with a score of 308.30. Haigler finished ninth with a score of 289.50 while Six came in 16th with a score of 239.05.

The Cowgirls finished seventh in the 200-yard medley relay, with Metzler, Horne, Franckowiak and Moore swimming a collective 1:40.28.

In the final event of the day, Wyoming took fifth in the 800-yard freestyle relay, entailing of Joyce, Avery True, Klimczak and Franckowiak logging a 7:15.94.
