Fremont County coroner rules death a homicide

RIVERTON (WNE) — Details have emerged about a man found deceased in a vehicle on the Wind River Reservation this spring after Fremont County Coroner Erin Ivie released a report indicating he was the victim of homicide.
The body of Rex Allen Lofts, 72, was found on April 21.Â
Dispatch and law enforcement officers were heard over the police scanner calling for both investigators from the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the coroner’s office. The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office call log indicated the coroner was called to an undisclosed location on a report logged as “suspicious person/ circumstance.”
Ivie indicated in her report that Lofts’ manner of death was homicide, and his cause of death was gunshot wounds to the trunk and shoulder. His time of death was unknown, and Ivie noted Lofts’ body suffered from moderate decomposition when it was recovered.Â
Lofts was added to the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation’s missing persons database in January 2025; the filing stated he was last seen on December 14, 2024, traveling in a red Ford truck with a flat bed.
