Food truck coming to Newcastle

The Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies will be coming to Newcastle on June 6, thanks to Weston County Public Health Nurse Lori Bickford and her staff that are organizing the event. 
Beginning at 1 p.m., people will be able to pull up and pop their trunk at the Weston County Fairgrounds and leave with 80 pounds of food, according to Bickford. 
“Each family will get one box. We do not know exactly what will be in each box. What we do know, is the boxes will contain about 80 pounds of food including fruit and vegetables,” Bickford said. “The Food Bank will not be able to distribute at different locations throughout the county due to time constraints of the operation. Anyone who is in need of this service is welcome to come.”
The Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies coming to Newcastle is the most recent local example of the outreach to those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic that has restricted business and travel on a global scale. 
Additionally, First Lady Jennie Gordon’s Wyoming Hunger Initiative recently launched the Food from the Field program in conjunction with the Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies, according to a release from the Wyoming Hunger Initiative. 
This program will help feed Wyoming residents in need through a game meat donation process with the food bank organizing the distribution of the donations. 
“Wyoming’s majestic landscapes offer hunters some of the best opportunities in the world; Food from the Field enables them to share that bounty. Partnering with the Wyoming Game & Fish Department, Wyoming Department of Agriculture, Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies, and meat processors throughout the state, the program streamlines game meat donations to food pantries across Wyoming,” the release states. “The ultimate goal of Food from the Field is to utilize Wyoming resources to combat food insecurity. The program complements existing donation efforts around the state and the increased collaboration between these agencies offers a framework for more processors to participate. As part of the program, all deer, elk and moose will undergo appropriate Chronic Wasting Disease testing to ensure safety prior to entering the food bank system.”
