On Feb. 12, the Saddle and Sirloin FFA Chapter hosted their local speech contest. The new members of the FFA chapter recited the FFA Creed. The FFA Creed is a set of beliefs outlined in five paragraphs written by E.M. Tiffany in 1928. The competitors included Aidan Chick, Rachel Sweet, Callie Hiser, Quartney Bickford, Bailey Benshoof, LaKacee Lipp, Leo Orban, and Jonathan Carlson. Giving the FFA Creed is required for members to receive their Greenhand Degree at the end of the year.
LaKacee Lipp and Bailey Benshoof were Co-winners in this competition, with Rachel Sweet as the alternate and Callie Hiser in fourth. LaKacee and Bailey will continue onto Districts on Feb. 27.
During this competition, members are also able to participate in Extemporaneous and Prepared Speaking. The FFA chapter had no members participate in the Prepared competition, but three members were part of the Extemporaneous contest. This year, Sierra Checketts, Asia Graham, and Peyton Crinklaw participated in the Extemporaneous portion of the competition. Extemporaneous Speech is a challenging competition. Competitors draw three questions that are part of the five categories, pick their favorite, and have 30 minutes to research, practice, and finally present. In the Saddle and Sirloin FFA Chapter’s local competition, Sierra Checketts and Peyton Crinklaw were Co-winners, while Asia Graham was the alternate. Sierra and Peyton will continue and participate in Districts in Upton, Wyoming.
The members who competed made the FFA Chapter proud, and the chapter expressed appreciation for the judges of the competition — Tim Tysdal, Hale Redding, and Kathleen Engle.
