TORRINGTON, Wyo. – Eastern Wyoming College has added women’s golf to the college’s athletic programs, with the goal of fielding a team this fall.

“The college and many community members have talked about adding women's golf for years,” EWC golf coach Zach Smith said. “I think it will really add to campus, the community and what we offer women in terms of athletics at EWC.”

Smith will coach both the Lancer men and women’s golf team, according to EWC Athletic Director BJ McCullum.

“Coach Smith has built a regional power on the men’s golf side and with his knowledge and leadership we also expect great things from the women,” McCullum said. “They will begin competition on a schedule that parallels the men.”

The Lancers are looking to field a team of six to eight women for the fall 2024 season. Scholarships are available.

“I'm looking for girls with high school golf tournament experience that want to come work hard and have fun,” Smith said. “College golf is a great experience, and will help them grow as young adults. Hard working, competitive students are what we need to start a new program. There are golf scholarships available, if someone is interested, contact me.”

The Lancers will be the fourth women’s golf team in the region and will compete in around 12 tournaments a year.
