Christ Episcopal Church welcomed its new deacon, the Rev. Wendy Owens, on Sunday, Sept. 16.
“We’re thrilled to have Deacon Wendy serving our church,” said Mike Hutchinson, senior warden of Christ Church.
“The people of Christ Church have been so welcoming. I have felt right at home ever since I first came. I look forward to serving this congregation and the community,” the Rev. Owens said.
The Rev. Owens graduated from the Wyoming Iona School in April 2018 with a Certificate in Theological Studies. She was ordained as a deacon in the Episcopal Church in October 2017. Prior to coming to Christ Church, the Rev. Owens served as a Deacon at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Casper.
In addition to being an Episcopal deacon, the Rev. Owens is also a staff attorney with Legal Aid of Wyoming, a nonprofit law firm serving low-income Wyomingites. She works in Legal Aid of Wyoming’s Gillette office, where she handles civil cases in Weston, Crook, Campbell, Sheridan, and Johnson counties. She obtained her bachelor’s and law degrees from the University of Wyoming.
In her spare time, the Rev. Owens enjoys outdoor activities with her fiancé, Rob Thompson, and her dog Daisy, going to Colorado Rockies and Colorado Rapids games with her son, Will. She also enjoys crafts, including sewing and knitting.
