Engage the public

With revenue shortfalls that have no chance of ending anytime soon and the need for the government to make decisions on where to raise money or cut money, now is the time for these leaders to engage the public.
Over the last year, between COVID-19 and the 2020 election, concerned citizens in Wyoming have become more and more involved in local government and voicing their opinions. The News Letter Journal wants to encourage elected officials not only in Weston County but across the state to take this opportunity to get those they represent involved in the decisions that are being made.
Not only will this make the public feel they are being heard and that their opinions matter, during a time when most think that is the exact opposite but it also gives governement officials the opportunity to present the issues to the people.
It is time that the public understand the issues facing local communities, whether it is water infastructure, roads or loss in revenue as well as the reasons behind the decisions made by those elected to lead.
Not only do we want to encourage elected officials to further engage the public but we would also like to encourage the public to continue to speak their thoughts and voice their concerns. Our government cannot represent us if we don’t let ourselves be heard.
While working together, we must all continue to remind ourselves that listening is just as crucial in solving issues and addressing problems as speaking. It is time that elected officials listen and encourage the public to do the same.
Working together is the only way to move past the problems plaguing the state.
