Weston County emergency officials are working to better support residents with access and functional needs during emergencies, according to Weston County Public Health Nurse Angela Phillips.

Phillips said the Weston County Emergency Preparedness Team β€” which includes Weston County Public Health, Emergency Management, Weston County Health Services, the Weston County Sheriff’s Office and Campbell County EMS β€” has distributed an Individual Emergency Preparedness Plan form throughout the county to help identify residents who may need assistance during emergencies.

The form is intended for individuals who rely on oxygen, life-sustaining medical treatments, mobility aids, medication support or who may need help evacuating their homes. Phillips said the information will allow emergency responders to act more effectively, particularly following recent power outages.

All information provided on the form is confidential and will be used only by the Emergency Preparedness Team for emergency response purposes, she said.

Residents who may benefit from completing the form, or who know someone who may need assistance, are encouraged to contact any of the participating agencies to obtain a form. Forms are available at Weston County Public Health; Weston County Health Services, including the hospital, home health, and the Newcastle and Upton clinics; Hometown Medical; the Weston County Senior Center; Weston County Pharmacy; Cambria Pharmacy; and the Weston County Libraries in both Newcastle and Upton.Β

Phillips said assistance is available for residents who need help completing the form or who are unable to leave their homes.
