On Feb. 22 at 6 p.m., the Newcastle City Council will meet with eight people who submitted a letter of intent for the council seat vacated by Mayor Pam Gualtieri. According to City Clerk-Treasurer Greg James, the council will not make a decision or appoint a new member that evening.
Gualtieri was elected mayor on Nov. 3. The applicant chosen by the council will serve the remaining two years of Gualtieri’s term.
Before selecting a new council member, the board will interview the eight candidates for about 10 minutes each during an open public meeting. During this time, James said, the candidate will have the opportunity to speak and answer questions posed by the council.
The applicants — Tom Voss, Jared Evick, Lance Miles, Karl Lacey, Mason Kaiser, Wolfgang VanHelsing, Jami Chapple and Christopher Rhodes — will meet with the council in that order.
James said that the council will likely
appoint the newest council member at its March 1 meeting.
