Easter is about love, not hate

This week is Holy Week for Christians around the world, culminating in the celebration of the Resurrection on Sunday, when Jesus, our Lord and Savior rose from the grave.

You would think during this time that social media would be flooded with messages of hope and God’s love.

You would think that, but you would be wrong.

There is a meme that has been circulating about the “White House plans ‘extraordinary’ Holy Week as Trump honors Easter with ‘the observance it deserves.’”

That sounds all well and good, if the meme had ended there. But it didn’t.

It adds, falsely (we will get to that in a moment), “Trump’s robust Holy Week celebration comes after the Biden White House declared Easter 2024 Transgender Day of Visibility.”

First let us address the falsehood. According to GLAAD.org, “International TDOV was created in 2010 by trans advocate Rachel Crandall.” It is celebrated every year on March 31. It was celebrated, by those who chose to, on March 31 this year.

Each year of President Joe Biden’s presidency, he proclaimed March 31 Transgender Day of Visibility. It just happened that March 31, 2024, was Easter.

This year Easter is April 20, if Biden had been president International TDOV would have been proclaimed, as always, on March 31.

Second, let us look at the meme from a Christian viewpoint. To me, this meme is why many have turned away from Christianity. Why do people have to include a negative with a positive?

Why not promote the Holy Week festivities that Trump has planned. Why include an attack on Biden?

In Matthew 22:36-40. Jesus answers a question, “‘Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?’ And He said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ Upon these two commandments hang the whole Law and the Prophets.’”

Jesus taught about love, not hate. He did not say love the Lord your God because your previous God was a dirty so-and-so.

He did not say love your neighbor as yourself because the previous neighbor was a horrible person.

He preached love. Period. No caveats, no conditions, no history, no past.

What Christ did for us on the cross was all above His love for us, hate had nothing to do with it. It was about love that he rose again for us to have eternal life.

You see, this Easter, I would like to remind Christians that your faith is not, or rather should not, be based on who is president or what political party is in power. You see your faith is based on the One who never changes. There is one God, and one Son, Jesus Christ.

Paul proclaimed in Hebrews 13 (verse 8) “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (NASB).

Praise God that he does not change after each election, does not change based on what the polls say or how the markets are doing or even on public opinion.

Happy Easter/Resurrection Sunday.
