EARL “ERV” WENTLING
Earl “Erv” E. Wentling, formerly of Newcastle, Wyo., passed away on March 27, 2019, in Tucson, Ariz.
Erv was born on Aug. 31, 1936, in Santa Paula, Calif., to William and Alma Wentling.
The family eventually moved back to Nebraska where Erv graduated from Beaver City High School.
After serving two years in the army, Erv chose to continue his education and completed his bachelor’s degree at Doane College. Erv also earned his master’s degree at Chadron State College.
While attending college, Erv married Shirley Knapp and two children were born to this union, Al and Chris. In 1977, Erv married Ruth Breaw and they enjoyed many years together.
Because of his love of working with young people and athletics, Erv chose to become a high school teacher and coach. Erv had the opportunity to teach/coach in Nebraska and Wyoming, and eventually retired from his educational career as an athletic director in Kingman, Ariz.
During his retirement years, Erv and Ruth enjoyed spending time with family, golfing, travelling, and, of course, his beloved Cornhuskers.
Erv is survived by his wife, Ruth; two children, Al (Jane) Wentling and Chris (special friend, Deb) Wentling; five grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
A burial service will be held at Black Hills National Cemetery on Friday, April 5, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to hospice care at Casa de la Luz Foundation, 7740 North Oracle Road, Tucson, AZ 85704.
