Driver who allegedly hit 100 mph in Cody still at large
CODY (WNE) — After an officer witnessed a driver traveling at 100 mph through town before wrecking and abandoning his vehicle, a Cody man is facing numerous charges.
Robert House faces a total of six charges in the Park County Circuit Court as a result of his alleged actions.
According to charging documents, Cody Police Department Officer Blake Stinson clocked House traveling 7 mph over the posted speed limit on Blackburn Avenue the evening of November 16.
“I recognized the vehicle from previous law enforcement encounters as Robert House’s vehicle,” Stinson said in his affidavit.
After Stinson turned to follow House, he watched the vehicle accelerate to what he estimated to be 100 mph. House then attempted to turn onto a side street but crashed into a tree in a residential yard, charging documents alleged.
Stinson lost sight of House when he fled from his crashed vehicle. As officers searched the area of the crash for House, CPD was notified by a property owner that they had security footage of House entering their property.
The footage showed a man, whom Stinson identified as House, opening a gate to enter the backyard of a private residence. At the time of the incident, House was on probation for a previous driving under suspension arrest from earlier this year, charging documents said.
In House’s abandoned vehicle, Stinson found a bottle of alcohol and a wallet containing various forms of identification for House. Additionally, he conducted a field test which returned a positive result for marijauna and methamphetamine, Stinson said in his affidavit.
An arrest warrant was issued for House on November 21. As of Wednesday morning, House was not listed on the directory of inmates at the Park County Detention Center.
He is wanted on numerous charges, including possession of methamphetamine, driving under a suspended license, and criminal trespass.
