Dollar Lake Fire surpasses 15,000 acres
PINEDALE — In the two weeks since it was discovered, the Dollar Lake Fire has grown to more than 15,000 acres.
It was measured at 15,282 acres, according to Inciweb.gov, as of press time on Sept. 3. The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
A total of 592 personnel are assigned to the fire, and thanks to their efforts 25% of the fire’s perimeter has been contained. The estimated containment date for the Dollar Lake Fire is Oct. 15.
The wildfire is burning in timber, including litter and understory, lodgepole pine and mixed conifer and tall brush of the Bridger-Teton National Forest’s Pinedale Ranger District.
Recent moisture has helped control the fire spread in grass and shrub fuel types, although the fire continues creeping and smoldering in the heavy downed fuels with potential for torching, according to the latest update from the incident management team. Warm and dry conditions are expected to persist, with gusty winds forecasted in the coming days.
Earlier this week, fire crews successfully completed strategic firing operations on the southeastern end of the Dollar Lake Fire to remove heavy dead-and-downed trees and snags. This helped bolster protection around the Red Cliff Bible Camp as well as homes in the Kendall Valley.
