LARAMIE (WNE) — The Albany County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a possible homicide.

The body of an unidentified man – currently referred to as John Doe —  was discovered wrapped in a tarp the evening of July 4 at Mirror Lake, located near the summit of the Snowy Range Scenic Byway.

The following morning, the sheriff ’s office posted a closure notice on its Facebook page

urging the public to avoid the Mirror Lake day use, picnic and recreational areas.

The area was again open to the public on Saturday, according to another post that also mentioned the investigation was ongoing.

“ … Regrettably, there were no identifiable markings that could assist in distinguishing him from others,” said a report from the ACSO. “Consequently, our dedicated detectives will meticulously analyze John Doe’s fingerprints, DNA, and dental records, comparing them to missing persons reports that align with his description.”

The ACSO also confirmed it is “treating and investigating this case as a homicide, employing all available resources to uncover the truth surrounding this unfortunate incident. Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, we are limited in the information we can share with the public at this time.”
