Many people believe Christianity is simply a list of rules. Attend church, read your Bible, pray, avoid certain sins, and try to be a good person. While some of these things are important, none of them makes someone a Christian.

Jesus explained what eternal life really means: “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent” (John 17:3).

True Christianity begins with a relationship with Jesus Christ, not religious performance. We cannot earn salvation through good behavior, church attendance, or following religious traditions. Salvation is God's gift of grace, received through faith in Christ (Ephesians 2:8–9).

But there is another side we must not overlook. Knowing Christ changes how we live. Jesus said, “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments” (John 14:15).

Notice that Jesus connected obedience with love. We don't obey Him to earn salvation. We obey because we belong to Him. Genuine faith produces repentance, a desire for holiness, and a willingness to surrender our lives to God's authority.

Unfortunately, some people replace a living relationship with Christ with religious activity. Others claim to know Him while having little concern for what He commands. Neither reflects the Christianity Scripture teaches.

True Christianity is not about keeping enough rules to become acceptable to God. It is about knowing Jesus Christ, surrendering to Him, and allowing His truth to transform our lives.

The question is not simply whether you follow Christian rules. The question is whether you truly know and follow Jesus Christ.
