The Design Elements of a Professional Lobby

A guest’s experience is critical to their perception of a business; no matter how good the service is, the environments that companies foster in their buildings color a customer’s feelings toward them. Most often, a customer’s interaction with a company begins at the lobby, making this a vital place to put your best foot forward. Be aware of the design elements of a professional lobby to ensure a positive guest experience.

Adequate Lighting
The most immediate concern of any business creating a welcoming environment is to ensure the best quality light. Typically, companies favor large windows to allow natural light to flow throughout the lobby. The light from the sun puts people at ease; it relaxes them and creates a natural look to your lobby.

Artificial Lighting

While natural light is the most ideal, it is not always the most practical. If you find your building does not have the capability to utilize sunlight, consider installing LED fixtures. LEDs emit a smooth, even light, giving your lobby full-coverage light with the modern white color of the LEDs. It provides a professional look on top of increasing visibility.

A Calm Atmosphere

Lighting is only one of the design factors of your professional lobby; the other significant consideration is noise regulation. You can’t always control the sounds outside and around your property, whether traffic or construction. These sounds can disturb customers while they wait or go about business, inevitably interfering with their satisfaction.

Mitigate the Noise

While you can’t control what happens outside your building, you can incorporate methods to soundproof your property. Installing acoustic mesh and other sound-absorbing materials can dampen the level of noise seeping in from the outside, allowing for a more controlled environment.

Cohesive Furnishings

There may be times when guests need to wait for a time for service or to see a customer service representative. When guests need to wait, you must provide them with the necessary furniture so they can comfortably sit during that time. But it’s not enough to provide these furnishing; you should also ensure they have a stylistic cohesion with one another.

Matching Styles

A consistent look with muted colors is universally appealing and can form a welcoming and relaxed space for guests to wait. Incongruous styles or colors can make customers feel uncomfortable and unconsciously stress them out as they wait for service. Eliminate these alienating feelings and maintain a cohesive look throughout your lobby.

Customers’ Needs First

Everything you do must be in service of the customers’ needs and desires. Above all, your lobby must be convenient, accommodating, and welcoming, a place where individuals can come in and effortlessly do business. Neglecting their needs will only prove detrimental, as they may walk away from your business with a feeling of dissatisfaction.
