Day 6: Walk by the Spirit – Not by the Flesh

Day 6 of the 7-Day Challenge reminds us to walk by the Spirit, not the flesh. As believers, we face a daily choice—follow the Spirit's lead or give in to old desires. Let the fruit of the Spirit show who’s leading your life.
Scripture:
Galatians 5:16 – “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.”
Romans 8:5 – “For those who are in accord with the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are in accord with the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.”
Galatians 5:22-23 – “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control...”
Thought:
As believers, we still wrestle with the flesh—our old habits, selfish desires, and worldly thinking. But when we’re saved, we receive the Holy Spirit who empowers us to live differently. Walking in the Spirit means making daily choices to follow His lead rather than giving in to the pull of our sinful nature.
- Galatians 5:16 makes it clear—when we walk by the Spirit, we won’t fulfill the desires of the flesh. It’s a choice. Every day, sometimes every moment, we decide which direction we’re going to walk in.
- Romans 8:5 tells us it starts in the mind. What we set our thoughts on matters. Are we filling ourselves with things that stir up the flesh or feed the Spirit?
- And Galatians 5:22-23 gives us the test—what kind of fruit is being produced in our lives? If the Spirit is leading us, it’ll show in our character and actions.
This isn’t about perfection. It’s about progress—about intentionally following the Spirit’s lead more and more each day, and letting Him shape us into the image of Christ.
Challenge:
Pay attention today to the tug-of-war between your flesh and the Spirit. Be honest with yourself. Where are you letting your old self lead? Where do you need to surrender to the Spirit? Ask God to help you walk in His Spirit today. Remember, the evidence will be in the fruit.
