Trencheva leads Cowgirls to close 2025 home schedule

LARAMIE, Wyo. (April 13, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowgirls closed out their 2025 home slate with a 4-1 win Sunday over Colorado State on Senior Day. UW’s lone senior, Elena Trencheva was honored prior to the match. Trencheva picked up both a doubles and singles victory on the day.

“Elena was awesome today,” said Head Coach Dean Clower after the match.

“She executed, did exactly what we talked about, exactly what she was supposed to do the whole match, that’s why she was off the court in an hour.”

The Cowgirls (7-14, 4-5 MW) got on the board first with a win at doubles. Thanks to a CSU forfeit at No. 3, Wyoming was able to secure the Doubles Point behind Eugenia Ceinos and Trencheva’s win at the second spot. The duo won 6-1.

In singles, Wyoming got wins No. 1, 4 and 6 (forfeit) to secure the team win. At No. 1, Anastasiia Kochelaevskaia rallied to win a hard-fought 6-7 (8-10), 6-3 and 6-4 match. Trencheva picked up a straight sets victory at No. 4, winning 6-2 and 6-3. Violetta Borodina was tied 4-4 in the third set at No. 2, while Dilnaz Mashabayeva was leading one to set to none at No. 5 when the match was clinched by the Cowgirls.

“Today was winning ugly 101,” said Clower. “The fight was there, the heart was there, in certain situations, we didn’t always play them right, but the fight wins in the end. That’s what I told them after the match.”

Wyoming now looks to close the regular season on a strong note as it finishes Mountain West play next week. The Cowgirls travel to face Air Force at 5 p.m., Thursday in the regular-season finale.
