Cowgirls Travel to Fresno State for Final Road Match of 2024

First serve set for 2 p.m., Mountain Saturday

LARAMIE, Wyo. (Nov. 14, 2024) – The Wyoming Cowgirls will hit the road for the final time during the 2024 season Saturday with a trip to Fresno State. The Cowgirls and Bulldogs faceoff at 2 p.m., Mountain Time.

The Cowgirls (14-10, 6-9 MW) are coming off a pair of tough losses last week, losing in four to rival Colorado State in Laramie before dropping a five-set slugfest with Boise State on the road to close the week. Paige Lauterwasser led the Cowgirls with 28 kills on the week and continues to rank sixth in the Mountain West in league play with 3.57 kills and 3.89 points per set this season. In the loss at Boise, Emma Winter led UW with a career-best 19 kills while hitting an efficient .318.

Defensively, Wyoming continues to produce student-athletes near the top of the league. Sarah Holcomb ranks second in the Mountain West averaging 1.27 blocks per set while Kayla Mazzocca’s 1.21 per is third in the conference. Sierra Grizzle, meanwhile, is tied for the league lead with 4.14 digs per set.

As a team, Wyoming ranks fourth in the MW in aces (1.51), assists (11.93) and digs per set (14.01). The Cowgirls’ opponent hitting percentage of .187 ranks second-best in the Mountain West. UW’s .224 team hitting percentage is up to third in the league right now. Wyoming still ranks in the top 30 nationally in total team blocks with 246.

Fresno State is led by All-Mountain West Team honoree Ella Rud's 3.73 kills per set, which ranks fifth in the league. Rud's 4.33 points per also ranks fifth best. Brooke Cowie orchestrates the offense and ranks second in the conference, averaging 10.03 assists per set. Defensively, Dionii Fraga is averaging a league-leading 4.14 digs per set. Kasey Purry is sixth in blocks with 1.16 a set. Fresno won in five sets in Laramie in early October in the two’s first meeting this season.
