Wyoming closes third on 25-7 run

RENO, Nev. (Oct. 29, 2026) – The Wyoming Cowgirls took care of business on the road Thursday night, opening up their two-match series with Nevada with a 25-21, 25-19 and 25-15 sweep.

Wyoming (11-11, 4-7 MW) came out strong to begin the match and despite seven ties in the first set, the Cowgirls never trailed in the opening frame. Nevada fought hard in the first, tying things up at 18-18 before a 7-3 run late from the Cowgirls gave it an early 1-0 lead.

The second set saw UW jump out early and lead wire-to-wire in the set. The Wolf Pack would again hang around, without being able to get over the hump. Leading 20-19 in the second, the Cowgirls were able to score the final five points of the set to take a command two sets to none lead. The third started out rocky for the Cowgirls, as Nevada scored the first eight points of the set. However, Wyoming took control from there, outscoring the Wolf Pack 25-7 the rest of the frame to close out the match. The Brown & Gold had a six- and nine-point run in the third to help it mount the comeback.

The Cowgirls hit .200 in the victory while holding Nevada to just a .077 team hitting percentage. UW held a 6-3 advantage in service aces on the night and committed seven serving errors to the Wolf Pack’s 10. Nevada did enjoy a 5-2 edge in team blocks in the contest.

Paige Lauterwasser led a balanced Wyoming attack with 10 kills against the Wolf Pack. Addy Thorington added seven kills while Ruby Jensen and Emma Winter had six each. Anna Williams and Sara Quigley chipped in five and four, respectively while hitting .714 and .429.

Williams and Winter led UW with two block assists each on the night, defensively. Winter also led Wyoming with nine digs while Peyton Carruth had eight as she made her first-career start at libero. Anna Melgren and Thorington had two aces apiece to lead the Cowgirls.

UW and the Wolf Pack will play the second match of the series Saturday in Reno at 2 p.m., Mountain Time.
