Cowgirls Sweep Past Vikings

Wyoming hits .363 to move to 2-0

 LARAMIE, Wyo. (Aug. 30, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowgirls notched their first sweep of the young season Saturday night inside the Arena-Auditorium, making quick work of Cleveland State. The Cowgirls took the match with scores of 25-20, 25-17 and 25-12. There were only five lead changes on the evening as UW moves to 2-0 in 2025.

Sarah Holcomb led an efficient Cowgirl attack with 14 kills while hitting .500 on the night. As a team, Wyoming registered 10 more kills than the Vikings and hit .363 while holding CSU to just a .145 efficiency. Addy Cook also finished in double figures with 10 kills. Another Addy, Thorington, chipped in with eight kills on the evening. UW hit .300-or-better in all three sets in the win, including a .429 opening set.

Sara Quigley averaged 12 assists in the sweep as she tallied 36 assists to go along with five digs, a pair of blocks and two kills in the win. Jordan Sandy led the UW defense with three total blocks. Passing wise, three Cowgirls had double figure digs Saturday, led by Paige Lauterwasser’s 14. Lily LaFlesch had 13 while Skylar Erickson added 11. Lauterwasser also tallied eight kills on an efficient .381 hitting percentage with no attack errors.

Overall, Wyoming held a 6-2 advantage in team blocks. LaFlesch had the Cowgirls’ lone service ace to go with just four serving errors. Cleveland State had a pair of aces and six errors.

Next up, the Cowgirls look to make it a perfect 3-0 opening weekend of 2025 as Colorado closes the Rumble in the Rockies Sunday. First serve is set for 1 p.m., in the Arena-Auditorium.
