Bijlsma and Borodina pick up the victory

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Oct. 2, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowgirls opened the Mountain West Fall Individual Championships Thursday afternoon. Wyoming picked up a doubles win on the first day of action.

The tandem of Silver Bijlsma and Violetta Borodina defeated Hawkins and Mircheva of UNLV, 8-5. The duo will now face a team from Air Force in Friday’s quarterfinals.

In singles, the Cowgirls fought hard but 0-3 on the day, dropping a pair of three-set battles. Borodina and Anastasiia Kochelaevskaia both lost in three sets while Bijlsma was beaten in straight sets.

“I thought in doubles we came out and played very disciplined and our style, against a very good team,” said Head Coach Dean Clower.

“In singles, it was the opposite. We had chances everywhere - we just weren’t disciplined. We didn’t stick to what we do best. We have a quick turnaround now and need to be ready to go again tomorrow.”
