Cowgirls Give Strong Fight to No. 4 Oklahoma

Wyoming forces three matchups to go to third set
STILLWATER, Okla. (Jan. 15, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowgirls fought hard on the road Wednesday night at fourth-ranked Oklahoma State. Despite what the 7-0 final score indicated the Cowgirls battled with one of the nation’s best.
Wyoming forced three singles matches to go to a deciding third set in the loss. Ruby Young at No. 3, Elena Trencheva at No.4 and Dilnaz Mashabayeva at the No. 6 position all forced a decisive third set. Young lost 4-6, 6-1 and 6-2. Trencheva came up short, 6-2, 3-6 and 6-3. Mashabayeva, meanwhile lost 6-4, 1-6 and 6-2. Violetta Borodina also was up to the challenge at the No. 1 spot as she lost a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 matchup.
The Cowgirls return to action Friday with a pair of matches to close-out their trip in the Sooner State. UW will face Wichita State at 1:30 p.m., and Oklahoma at 5 p.m., Mountain Time in Norman.
