Cowgirls Falter at San Diego State

Winter leads Wyoming in kills in loss 

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Oct. 19, 2024) – The Wyoming Cowgirls faltered on the road Saturday, losing in three sets at San Diego State. The Aztecs controlled the contest, 25-23, 25-16 and 25-19.

Emma Winter led the Wyoming (11-7, 3-5 MW) offense and was the only Cowgirl with double-digit kills as she notched 11 in the loss. Paige Lauterwasser and Kayla Mazzocca added nine each. Mazzocca hit .412 in the loss and led the Cowgirls with two blocks.

SDSU (13-5, 5-3 MW) hit .318 in the match and held Wyoming to just a .197 clip. The Aztecs were stronger at the net, tallying eight team blocks to the Cowgirls’ two. Wyoming held a 4-3 edge in service aces on the day but committed 12 serving errors while San Diego State had just seven.

Kasia Partyka led the way with 29 assists in the matchup and also added six digs. Sierra Grizzle led the Cowgirls with 15 digs against the Aztecs while Lauterwasser was one kill shy of another double-double, as she recorded 10 digs. Kendal Rivera led the team with two service aces off the bench.

Next up, the Cowgirls conclude their three-match road swing with a Thursday, October 24 contest at Air Force. The Cowgirls and Falcons face-off at 6 p.m., at the USAFA.
