Wyoming plays strong final minutes against Fort Lewis

LARAMIE, Wyo. (Oct. 24, 2025) – It was an exhibition contest that featured a lot of strong teaching moments for the Cowgirls Friday night as they hosted Fort Lewis College to unofficially begin year four under Heather Ezell. The Cowgirls showed great toughness down the stretch in their three-point win over the Skyhawks.

The first hoop was a sweet drive and dish from Lana Beslic to Logann Alvar on the first possession of the game. The Cowgirls scored the first seven points of the exhibition contest. Wyoming led by one at the media timeout and trailed by one after the first quarter.

After Fort Lewis opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer, UW scored the next five baskets to reclaim the lead. Out of the timeout, the Cowgirl run continued before the Skyhawks again started to knock down some shots. The Wyoming advantage was eight at the break.

Turnovers hurt the Cowgirls to begin the second half as Fort Lewis cut into the UW lead. Fort Lewis led by one after the third quarter.

Both teams played strong defense to open the fourth as the Skyhawks maintained the lead to begin the frame. Fort Lewis continued to play physically as it lengthened the lead later in the quarter. Out of the final media timeout, the Cowgirls started to get the ball inside before making five at the free-throw line late to surge in front in the final minutes.

Malene Pedersen and Henna Sandvik led the Cowgirls in scoring and shot it well from the floor in the exhibition. Logann Alvar led the Cowgirls on the glass while Lana Beslic had a team-high for assists.

Wyoming forced Fort Lewis into 27 turnovers on the night and held the Skyhawks to just seven assists. FLC shot just 39.6-percent from the floor. The Cowgirls were out-rebounded in the contest.

Next up, will be exhibition number two for the Cowgirls as they host Colorado Christian at 6:30 p.m., on Halloween.
