Cowgirls Drop Mountain West Opener, 4-3

Pair of third-set losses cost UW in the match
LARAMIE, Wyo. (March 14, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowgirls dropped a hard-fought conference-opening match Friday afternoon at home. Wyoming came up just short in a battle with New Mexico, 4-3.
The Cowgirls opened the match by winning a hotly-contested Doubles Point. Wyoming was able to sneak out a 7-5 win at the No. 1 spot from Violetta Borodina and Dilnaz Mashabayeva. At No 3, the tandem of Serina Abriola and Ruby Young earned a 6-3 win to begin the day.
In singles, the Cowgirls mustered a pair of wins, taking the matches at the fourth and fifth positions. At No. 4, Mashabayeva won in straight sets, 6-3 and 7-5. While at No. 5, Elena Trencheva battled her way to a 6-4 and 6-4 win. UW suffered a pair of three-set defeats in singles play, proving to be the difference overall in the opener.
Wyoming looks to bounce back with a tough opponent Sunday morning. Nevada comes to Laramie for an 11 a.m., contest to close the opening weekend of league action.
