Cowgirls Drop Last Two Matches in Oklahoma

Wyoming now has two weeks off after six-match stretch in Sooner State
NORMAN, Okla. (Jan. 17, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team closed out its week-long trip in the Sooner State with a pair of matchups Friday against strong competition. The Cowgirls dropped a 4-0 match to Wichita State before falling to 16th-ranked Oklahoma, 7-0.
Before the match was clinched by Wichita State in the first match Friday, Violetta Borodina was up one set to none at the No. 1 singles position over the Shockers’ Xin Tong Wang, who came into the day ranked #62 in the country. At the No. 4 singles spot, Anastasiia Kochelaevskaia was leading her match 6-4 and 3-1 before Wichita State got the fourth team point to secure the win. In doubles against the Shockers, the No. 1 team of Borodina and Elena Trencheva won their matchup 6-2.
In the nightcap against the Sooners, Eugenia Ceinos stepped up to the No. 1 singles position and forced a third set super set. Ceinos came up just short in the super set, 10-5 against 43rd-ranked Alina Shcherbina. Ceinos split the first two sets, 3-6 and 6-1.
The Cowgirls will now have two weeks off before returning to action for their home opener January 31 against Metro State at 10 a.m.
