Cowgirls Dispatch Metro State in Home Opener, 7-0

First win of 2025 for Wyoming 

LARAMIE, Wyo. (Jan. 31, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team picked up their first dual win of the season Friday afternoon in their home-opening victory over Metro State. Wyoming made quick work of the Roadrunners, winning 7-0 and not dropping a set in the contest.

The match began with a Doubles Point win for UW as they got a pair of quick victories at the Nos. 1 and 3 spots. The tandem of Violetta Borodina and Eugenia Ceinos won the first position, 6-1. At No. 3, Serina Abriola and Ruby Young won 6-2. The Cowgirls were also up at the second position, 5-2 before the Doubles Point was clinched by the Cowgirls.

Wyoming carried the momentum over into singles, where they dispatched Metro State swiftly. Borodina won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. At No. 2, Ceinos came out on top 6-1 and 6-1. Anastasiia Kochelaevskaia won the third position, 6-0, 6-1. Ruby Young was victorious 6-4 and 6-4 at No. 4. In the fifth singles spot, Elena Trencheva held off her opponent, 6-1 and 6-4. Rounding things out in the win was Dilnaz Mashabayeva who won convincingly, 6-0 and 6-1 at the No. 6 spot.

The Cowgirls are off for a week now and will next be in action on the road February 7. UW will travel to the Midwest to face Iowa State in Ames.
