Cowgirls Bounce Back with 5-2 Win Over West Alabama

Wyoming opens Mountain West play next week

McCOMB, Miss. (March 9, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team picked up a strong victory Sunday in their first action in more than two weeks. The Cowgirls earned a 5-2 victory over West Alabama in a neutral-site matchup in McComb, Mississippi.

Wyoming (3-9) opened the day by taking the Doubles Point against the Tigers. At No. 1, Violetta Borodina and Dilnaz Mashabayeva won in impressive fashion, 6-1. While at the No. 3 spot, Serina Abriola and Ruby Young blanked their opponents, 6-0.

In singles, the Cowgirls came away with four individual match victories. Elena Trencheva clinched the overall win for UW with her comeback win. Trencheva won at the fifth position 5-7, 6-2 and 6-1. At No. 2, Anastasiia Kochelaevskaia won in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-4. Mashabayeva also rallied at No. 5, 4-6, 6-2 and 6-1. Abriola rounded-out the singles wins for Wyoming as she won the third-set super set at No. 6. Abriola won 6-0, 0-6 and 10-8.

Sunday was the Cowgirls’ final non-conference match of 2025. UW now sets its sights on the Mountain West slate. Conference play opens with a pair of home matches for the Cowgirls as they host New Mexico Friday, March 14 at 4 p.m., and Nevada Sunday at 11 a.m.
