UW has strong second half in win
LARAMIE, Wyo. (Oct. 31, 2025) – All available Wyoming Cowgirls played Friday night in Wyoming’s second exhibition to begin the 2025-26 season. The Cowgirls had a strong second half in their victory over Colorado Christian inside the Arena-Auditorium.
A putback layup from Henna Sandvik opened the scoring Friday. Sandvik scored the first five points of the contest. After the first quarter media timeout, the Cowgirls continued to get good looks but couldn’t get the shots to fall early. Heidur Karlsdottir provided Wyoming with a trio of free throws to end its scoring in the frame.
The second quarter saw the Cowgirl offense find a little more rhythm early on. Sandvik had a strong offensive quarter for the Brown & Gold. The Wyoming defense was also solid for most of the quarter as well.
Wyoming came out strong to open the second half as Lana Beslic drilled a three, hit a layup, made some free throws and also had a couple of steals. The Cowgirls were humming on both ends of the court to begin the third and forced an early Cougar timeout. After a UW 3-pointer from the top of the key, Colorado Christian called another timeout as Wyoming had blown the game wide open. Following the timeout, CCU was able to carve into the Cowgirl lead a bit to end the third.
The Cowgirls were able to empty the bench in the final 10 minutes as reserves played most of the fourth quarter. The UW defense continued a strong contest in the quarter as it was able to run out the clock on the final tune-up before the regular season begins.
UW did a better job Friday night of taking care of the ball, committing just 10 turnovers in the exhibition. The Cowgirls held CCU to under 36-percent shooting from the floor and just 3-of-15 from beyond-the-arc. Wyoming also enjoyed a plus-nine advantage in rebounding.
Sandvik led all scorers in the contest. Beslic led Wyoming in both rebounding and assists as she stuffed the stat sheet against the Cougars. Payton Muma led the Cowgirl bench in scoring in the contest.
The season tips for real Tuesday, November 4 as the Cowgirls welcome Saint Mary’s to Laramie for a 6:30 p.m., contest.
