Cowgirl Trio Named All-Mountain West
Noesjka Brink and Sophie Zehender Named to All-Singles Team – Violetta Borodina and Zehender Named All-Doubles
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (April 23, 2024) – A trio of Wyoming Cowgirls were named to the All-Mountain West Tennis Teams announced Tuesday night at the Mountain West Tennis Championships banquet. Noesjka Brink and Sophie Zehender were named to the All-Singles Team while Violetta Borodina and Zehender were named All-Doubles.
Brink, who was named all-league for the first time in her career, went 7-2 for the Cowgirls this season in Mountain West play. Brink is also tied for the team lead in dual matches in 2024 with 17 victories. Brink’s 26 wins overall in 2023-24, are the second-most in a single-season in program history. Brink played primarily at the No. 2 singles spot this season.
Zehender, meanwhile, was named all-singles for the fourth time in her illustrious career. Zehender becomes the fourth Cowgirl, and second consecutive (Maria Oreshkina), in program history to be named to the All-Mountain West Singles Team for a fourth time. Zehender led the team with an 8-2 mark in conference play, playing exclusively at the No. 1 spot. Zehender also tied with Brink for the team-lead with 17 wins in 2024. Zehender closed the season on a four-match winning streak.
In addition to her singles accolades, Zehender becomes just the second Cowgirl all-time to be all-doubles for a fourth time. Zehender is the first Cowgirl in program history to double-up four-time honors in both doubles and singles and she is just the seventh student-athlete in Mountain West history to achieve four-time honors in both doubles and singles. Her and Borodina, who played together in doubles for the first time this season, posted a 7-2 record in MW play together at No. 1. The duo went 18-4 in duals this season and overall, posted a 26-9 mark. Those 26 wins are a program record for single-season doubles wins as a tandem.
Under Head Coach Dean Clower, the Cowgirls have now had a doubles team named All-Mountain West in each of his 13 seasons. Wyoming has had an All-Doubles Team each season since 2010. Since 2009, UW has had an All-Singles Team member each season and has had two honorees for the fourth consecutive season.
