AMES, Iowa (Feb. 8, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team played a tough match on the road Saturday, at Iowa State. Wyoming battled throughout in the contest, coming up short, 5-2.
“I thought we got after it on every line today,” said Head Coach Dean Clower.
“As a coach, that’s all you can ask for. We are still learning how to play our style of tennis, but I feel like we made some major strides today. I was proud of the effort from the team. We will go over a lot of film this week, as there are many things to work on. However, things seem to be clicking faster now for them.”
The Cowgirls got wins at the No. 5 and 6 singles positions in the match. Elena Trencheva and Dilnaz Mashabayeva both came away with wins in the third set, super set. Trencheva rallied for a 2-6, 6-4 and 1-0 (10-6) victory. Mashabayeva, meanwhile, also came from behind after dropping the first set, 6-4, to rally and win 6-4 and 1-0 (10-5).
Wyoming returns to action next Friday, February 14 as Northern Arizona comes to Laramie for a 9 a.m., contest.
