Cowboys Third, Cowgirls Fifth to Close Mountain West Championships

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (November 1, 2024) – University of Wyoming men’s cross country finished third with 80 points while the women finished fifth at 103 points at the 2024 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Cross Country Championships at Eisenhower Golf Course, Friday. Senior Kylie Simshauser earned her first All-Mountain West first-team honor while senior Dylan van der Hock was named to his first conference team and senior Jacob White to his second as second-team All-Mountain West honorees.
The Cowboys had their best finish at the Championships since 2019 as White led the team and crossed first for the Cowboys at 24:37.1 for 11th overall. Van der Hock finished next in 14th place with a time of 24:47.5. Seniors Mason Norman and Ryker Holtzen finished back-to-back at 17th and 18th with times of 24:55.2 and 24:55.8, respectively. Capping off the scoring five was senior Trevor Stephen in 20th with a time of 25:04.3.
Other finishers were senior Mac Zastrow crossing the line at 31st with a time of 25:31.4, senior Gus McIntyre coming in 33rd with a time of 25:33.5 and sophomore Riley Nedrow finishing with a time of 26:09.3 for 44th.
The Cowgirls, led by Simshauser’s fifth-place finish of 20:34.5, finished one spot ahead of the Preseason and Pre-Championships coaches’ poll rankings. Simshauser, who tied her personal-best time from the 2024 Pre Nationals, led at the 1 mile mark but fell behind the eventual individual champion from New Mexico. Three pairs of Cowgirls finished near one another as seniors Abigail Whitman and Leah Christians finished together in 22nd and 23rd place with a time of 21:33.3 and 21.33.4, respectively. Junior Eowyn Dalbec came in 26th with a time of 21:41.8 and rounding out the scoring five was junior Madelyn Blazo, 27th, who finished at 21:42.1.
Junior Hailey Uhre crossed the line 29th with a time of 21:51.6 followed by graduate Marina Trave Ferrer in 30th with a time of 21:53.3. Other finishers were freshman Hanan Aldelemy in her best finish this season at 22:10.8 for 37th overall. Freshman Gracie Uhre grabbed 46th place with a time of 22:31.2 and Rozlyn Slichko crossed the line 49th at 22:36.8.

Wyoming will fight for a bid to the NCAA Championships when they race at NCAA Mountain Regional in Reno, Nev., on Friday, Nov. 15.
