Cowboys take on the Northern Iowa Panthers

HONOLULU (Dec. 22, 2021) – The Wyoming Cowboys take on the Northern Iowa Panthers on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. MT on ESPNU in the consolation bracket of the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu.
 
Fans can listen to the contest, as well as follow stats on GoWyo.com. The contest will be broadcast live on radio over the 26 affiliate stations of the Cowboy Sports Network, as Reece Monaco will have the call with Kevin McKinney on color.
 
About The Teams
Wyoming is 9-2 on the season after falling to Stanford in the opening round on Wednesday. The Cowboys shot 43 percent from the field in the contest with the Cardinal shooting 39 percent. Stanford held an 41-35 advantage on the glass and scored 16 points on second chances.
 
The Cowboys were led by Graham Ike with 25 points against Stanford. He was 11-of-18 from the field and added 11 rebounds for a double-double. Hunter Maldonado added 18 points along with eight rebounds. He also added eight assists in the game. Xavier DuSell added 13 points hitting three of the Pokes’ four triples on the night.
 
Northern Iowa nearly came back and beat Liberty, but fell 76-74. Four Panthers scored in double digits. Carter led with 20 points. Nate Heise had 15 points. AJ Green and Austin Phyfe notched 13 points and 12 points, respectively.
 
About The Players
Wyoming is led in scoring this season at 20.1 points per game. He also leads the team with 8.7 rebounds per game. Guard Hunter Maldonado adds 16.9 points per game. He also adds 5.4 rebounds per game 5.5 assists per game to lead the team. Guard Xavier DuSell 12 points per game, as he has hit 31 threes this season. Guard Drake Jeffries adds 10.4 points per game and leads the team with 35 three-pointers.
 
The Panthers are led in scoring by AJ Green, who is one of the top guards in the Missouri Valley adding 18.1 points per game. He also adds 3.6 rebounds. Forward Noah Carter adds 11.3 points per game and 2.9 rebounds.
 
About The Series
Wyoming leads the all-time series against the Panthers 4-2. The Pokes beat UNI on December 3, 2016 by a score of 81-73 in Laramie.
