Cowboys Second, Cowgirls Third at Wyoming Invite to Kickoff 2025 Season

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Aug. 30, 2025) – Cowboys take second, led by Senior Jacob White, and Cowgirls finish third with Redshirt-Freshman Claire Engelhardt leading the way at the Wyoming Invite Saturday morning, at the Little America Golf Course in Cheyenne, Wyo.
The men, with 45 points, ran 2-8-9-10-16 for second place to kick off the season. White held a substantial lead throughout the 5k before just being edged out of first place by Colorado. White finished at 15:03.36 as the only non-Buffalo finisher in the top seven. The next three Cowboys, seniors Ryker Holtzen, Mathis Chavand and Mac Zastrow, went 8-9-10. Holtzen ran a time of 15:29.98, Chavand at 15:30.66, a personal best, and Zastrow crossed the line at 15:33.24. This was Chavand’s first race as a Cowboy and first at such an elevation.
Sophomore Austin Akers and junior Aidan Ramsey crossed the line next for Wyoming at 23rd and 24th. Akers finished with a time of 16:10.92 while Ramsey ran 16:14.20 in his first 5k. Redshirt-Freshman Tanner Brown ran a time of 16:31.05 in his first meet attached to Wyoming.
Other finishers for Wyoming were sophomore Meyer Smith in 30th with a time of 17:00.49, sophomore Nolan Hoffman coming in 31st at 17:04.85 and senior Tristan Knueppel crossing the line 34th with a time of 17:13.80.
The men’s 5k finished with Colorado in first with 19 points, Wyoming in second with 45 points, Colorado State in third with 75 points and Northern Colorado rounding it out in fourth with 108 points.
The Cowgirls took third with 54 points, going 8-10-11-12-13, just 10 points behind No. 24 Colorado. The top finisher for Wyoming was Engelhardt in her first collegiate cross country race in the Brown and Gold. The Brighton, Colo., native came in ninth with a time of 18:33.96.
The next two scorers for the Cowgirls were graduate Marina Trave in 13th and sophomore Hanan Aldelemy in 14th. Trave crossed the line at 18:45.60 while Aldelemy finished at 18:46.82. To close out the scoring five, senior Rozlyn Slichko and junior Brionna Holso finished back-to-back in 16th and 17th. Slichko ran a time of 18:53.20 and Holso, in her first race for Wyoming, crossed the line at 18:54.38.
Three other pairs of Cowgirls finished together. Senior Libby Berryhill and sophomore Ella Unrein went 28-29 with times of 19:21.11, a personal best, and 19:25.40, respectively. Sophomores Gracie Uhre and Muriel Jones finished 31st and 32nd with times of 19:31.17 and 19:32.07. Redshirt-Freshman Reagan Gilman crossed the line 34th to break off the last pair with a time of 19:36.29 before redshirt-freshmen Elliana Zock and Megan Doherty took 38th and 39th at 19:51.81 ad 19:58.63, respectively. Junior Kayla Coppola rounded out the Cowgirls' morning, coming in 44th with her time of 21:08.64.
The women’s 5k saw Colorado State winning with 27 points, Colorado coming in second with 44 points, Wyoming in third with 54 points and Northern Colorado finishing fourth with 106 points.

Wyoming will be back in action to open their road schedule at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by Minnesota on September 19, in St. Paul, Minn. Last season, the Cowboys won the event for the first time ever while the Cowgirls finished in third, their best finish at the meet.
