Cowboys Rise, Cowgirls Hold Ground in Week One Regional Rankings

NEW ORLEANS (September 16, 2024) – Cowboys move up to seventh and Cowgirls stay steady at ninth in the U.S Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) week one Mountain Region poll released on Monday.

Cowboys leapfrogged conference foe Colorado State after finishing first ahead of the Rams at the Wyoming Invite on August 30. The top six remained unchanged from the preseason regional poll with Mountain West teams New Mexico at third and Air Force one spot ahead of Wyoming at sixth. Other ranked conference mates were Utah State at 10th and Nevada at 11th. In the West Region poll, Boise State landed in eighth place.

The Cowgirls remained in ninth place after the Wyoming Invite where senior Kylie Simshauser placed first and the women’s team finished second. Mountain West members in the poll were New Mexico in fourth, Colorado State in sixth, Air Force in ninth and Utah State falling to 12th. Boise State rose to sixth in the West Region poll.

Cross Country will be back in action this week at the Roy Griak Invitational, Friday. The men race at 9 a.m., women at 9:45 a.m.
