“With Bryce (Waters) tied for the lead and our position toward the top of a closely-packed field of teams, I’m pleased with the way the guys came out strong in the first round. We have five players who have put themselves in a good position heading into tomorrow’s second round.
“One thing we’ve been good at this season is taking it one round at a time and having our guys stay focused on playing the best they can each and every round. Tomorrow, I want the guys to go out and play loose and confident. We played one good round today. Now we have to turn our focus to round number two tomorrow.
“This is a course (the Classic Club) that will continue to challenge us, but I am pleased with our effort and our focus. Today showed that we had prepared well for this event.
“Bryce is a nice player and for him to be tied for the lead is a great first step. He is a very capable player and has done a good job of preparing himself to be in this position. Now he’s got to learn how to handle this situation -- playing with the lead -- and not be afraid of this moment.
“With the number of guys we have in the mix after day one, it is an indication that we’re developing some good habits, have good competition within our team and are building a nice balance.”
The second round of the 2022 Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate will be played Thursday, March 3 starting at 7 a.m., Pacific Time (8 a.m., Mountain Time). The third and final round will be played on Friday, March 4.
