Ebube Scores career-high 22 points

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Jan. 25, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowboys dropped a physical contest on the road at San Jose State by a score of 67-58 on Saturday evening inside the Provident Credit Union Event Center. Wyoming was held to 33 percent from the field and held to 19 percent from behind the arc.

“It is pretty simple, you can’t have everyone have their worst shooting night on the same night,” UW head coach Sundance Wicks said. “We knew they were a good individual defensive team, and our guards weren’t able to get in the paint and by guys. You have to catch a rhythm early.  Tough players play and tough players win.”

Wyoming was held to a season-low 19 percent from behind the arc, as Wyoming led the conference in three-point shooting heading into the game. San Jose State shot 44.2 percent from the field and hit six threes on the night at a 42.9 percent clip. The Spartans held a 43-41 advantage on the glass.

The Pokes were led by Scottie Ebube with a career-high 22 points for his second game this season in double-figures. He was 11-of-14 from the field with four dunks. Guard Obi Agbim was held to seven points for his first game this season under double figures but did add six assists. Oleg Kojenets and Dontaie Allen added six points.

Turnovers halted the Cowboy offense early with the Spartans taking a 5-2 lead, but buckets from Agbim and Ebube made it a 6-5 lead for the Pokes with 12 minutes left in the half. Wyoming held the Spartans scoreless for over minutes, but SJSU hit back-to-back three pointers for a 11-6 lead halfway through the half.

SJSU would push the lead to 13-8, but Kojenets and Agbim made it a 13-12 game. Ebube added a dunk and a layup to make it a 16-15 game for the Pokes with five minutes left in the half, but a 6-0 made it a 21-16 game.

Allen added a three-pointer, but Wyoming did not score in the final three minutes with the Spartans taking a 23-19 lead into the half. The Pokes shot 29.6 percent in the half and were held to one three-point make.

The Pokes would push the Spartan lead to one-point numerous times, as Ebube got to double-figures. A 7-2 run by the Spartans made it a 34-28 game with 16 minutes left in the contest. Agbim added a triple, but a 7-0 run gave the Spartans a 41-31 lead with 13 minutes remaining.

Wyoming went scoreless for over two minutes, as SJSU built the lead to 11 points halfway through the second frame. Wyoming went five minutes without a field goal with the Spartans spreading the lead to 12 points at 50-38 with under eight minutes left.

The Spartans would continue to frustrate the Pokes on the defensive end of the floor and led by as much as 14 points with three minutes left. San Jose State went on to take the contest, xx-xx

The Spartans were led by Lattrell Davis with 22 points. He was 8-of-11 from the field and knocked down three triples in the contest.

Wyoming returns home on Tuesday hosting Fresno State in the Arena-Auditorium for a 6:30 p.m. start in a contest on the Mountain West Network.
