Courthouse update

Dear Editor,
Several years ago, it became apparent that our courthouse, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, needed to be restored and at the same time, made more useful, safer and more comfortable for workers.
Since Weston County has a Historic Preservation Board, the board wrote a grant to hire an historic architect to evaluate the problems and recommend solutions. The county received the grant and Randy Hein, an architect from Casper, was hired to help the county solve these problems in a way that was appropriate to the historical significance of
the building.
The Weston County Historic Preservation Board recently visited the newly restored courthouse. The board was impressed by the careful attention to the history of the structure. The county officials were well informed and helpful. We should all be proud of our important historic structure.
The board was interested in the security issue with the courtroom and other connected offices. These changes are made necessary by the dangers now in our present society. The board was glad that these challenges had been addressed with
bullet-proof doors where necessary.
There were a few problems, such as replacing windows in the clerk’s and treasurer’s offices, that haven’t been addressed and the board would hope that these challenges would be carefully and historically met in the near future.
