The Cost of Silence: The Urgency to Share Christ

Reflecting on the call to witness, this post challenges believers to step out in faith and share the love of Christ before it's too late. Don't let missed opportunities weigh on you.
Imagine standing before Christ on Judgment Day, and He shows you all the opportunities you had to share His love with others, but you hesitated, stayed silent, or simply didn’t speak up. Maybe you were afraid, unsure, or distracted by your own life. Can you imagine the heartbreak of realizing that people God had placed in your life, people who needed to hear the gospel, missed out because you didn't step out in faith? This is a reality we must face and it’s one we cannot ignore.
In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus gave His disciples a clear command: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” He didn’t say, “Wait for them to come to you,” or “Let them figure it out on their own.” No, He commanded us to go out and make disciples, to share the message of salvation with those who need it.
But what happens when we don’t follow that command? When we keep silent, we’re not only losing the chance to live out our calling as God’s messengers, but we may also be preventing someone from hearing the truth they desperately need. Our silence could have eternal consequences. Romans 10:14-15 reminds us of the urgency of this message: “How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of good things!’”
Think of those who are lost in darkness and don't even know there’s a way out. Without the gospel, they may never know Christ. Romans 3:23 tells us, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” and without hearing the good news, they remain trapped in their sin, separated from God. But we are called to be the ones who bring that news to them.
God has chosen us to carry His message to the world. We are His ambassadors, His voice, His hands and feet. 2 Corinthians 5:20 says, “Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.” The responsibility of sharing the gospel isn't just a suggestion—it’s a command. And it’s not a command we should take lightly, because it’s through us that people will hear the truth of God’s love and salvation.
But sharing the gospel doesn’t always come easily. Fear of rejection, discomfort, or simply not knowing what to say can hold us back. Yet, Romans 1:16 reminds us, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.” We are not to be ashamed of the gospel, because it is the very power of God to bring salvation to those who believe.
If you feel uncertain about how to witness, you're not alone. Witnessing doesn’t always come naturally to everyone, and there’s no shame in seeking help. If you’re unsure of how to share your faith, reach out to mature believers, those who have proven themselves faithful servants of God. These mature believers can offer guidance, advice, and practical wisdom on how to approach witnessing and how to grow in courage and boldness.
God equips us with His Holy Spirit, giving us the strength, the words, and the opportunities to share His truth. Acts 1:8 assures us, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” Our obedience to share His message brings glory to God and might just be the catalyst for someone’s salvation.
Let’s not waste the opportunities God gives us. Let’s step out in faith, relying on His strength, trusting in His timing, and boldly proclaiming His truth. You never know when your words will change someone’s eternity.
