Cornerstone
It is fitting — and beneficial — that the impressive building that houses Decker’s Market sits on an elevated lot overlooking one of Newcastle’s busiest intersections.
It is fitting because there’s no better word than “cornerstone” to describe a family business that has existed in our community for 70 years — and a busy and visible corner is an appropriate place for that business to be located.
It is beneficial because the family business has done more than just exist here for seven decades.
It has thrived.
As a community, we can take pride in the attractive and bustling building that provides local shoppers with all the comforts, conveniences and amenities of the modern shopping experience while still offering the authentic charm and genuine commitment to service that customers expect from a small-town business.
Their contributions to the community have not been restricted within the walls of their location, however, as there has never been a year when Decker’s Market wasn’t helping to make Newcastle and Weston County a better place through the countless sponsorships and donations they’ve made to youth organizations and other worthy causes.
The excellence of the experience offered to consumers at the new location of Decker’s Market also attracts shoppers who come from outside the community to pick up groceries and prescriptions, grab a bite at the deli or pop into the liquor store. Those sales create jobs and spur the local economy. (The News Letter Journal is one of many local businesses that truly values the partnership we enjoy with Decker’s Market and the economic opportunities they continue to help create for our business community.)
We heartily salute the Decker family for their dedication and excellence and humbly offer our gratitude for running a business that has been a source of community pride for 70 years.
That business is truly a community cornerstone.
