Tails all over Newcastle are wagging since Megan Piatowski arrived in Newcastle and opened Salty Dog Pet Grooming.
Piatowksi is from Connecticut, where she earned her pet grooming license and began working. Piatowski and her fiancé, Josh Drost, had been visiting Newcastle after Drost’s family moved to the area.
“We visited a couple of times, and every time we’d come out to visit, we really loved it. We came and there are a lot of opportunities in the town and it’s just beautiful out here,” Piatowski said. “We hope to be here for a long time and raise kids here and everything. It is just a really nice town. We lived in Maine for a little while, and it had a small-town feel. We love that. It’s a different environment out here but so far it’s been really nice.”
Piatowski said that when they moved to Newcastle, they had the idea to continue Piatowski’s business in a studio environment, which Piatowski felt the town needed.
Salty Dog Grooming is located at 26 Chickasaw Drive. However, Piatowski has big plans. Soon the business will be moving into the building that used to be the Hop restaurant, 1114 W. Main St.
Piatowski says that family has been a big help in getting set up in Newcastle and renovating The Hop building.
“We’re doing a lot of work to the inside in there, and we’re going to make part of it the dog grooming and then part of it will have kennel runs going out the back that is going to be the doggy day care area,” Piatowski said.
Piatowski is taking appointments and is the sole groomer at Salty Dog Pet Grooming. Piatowski says that hopefully she will be able to hire help next year.
Salty Dog Pet Grooming is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Piatowski can be contacted at 307-228-4858.
