CONSTANCE ‘CONNIE’ ERTMAN
June 27, 1935–July 20, 2026
Constance “Connie” (Mattice Bostic) Ertman peacefully entered her heavenly home on July 20, 2026, at Weston County Manor.
Connie was born on June 27, 1935, in Billings, Montana, to Delworth R. Mattice and Sylvia P. Mattice. She spent her childhood near Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where her stepfather operated a hunting camp along Pacific Creek. According to Connie, it was there, during the fall of 1951, that she met the love of her life, John Ertman.
Connie and John were married on Jan. 29, 1952, beginning a partnership that would span more than six decades. They made their home on the Louis Petterson homestead on the Wyoming prairie, not far from where John was born and raised. Together they built a life centered on family, hard work, and a deep love for the land, welcoming three sons: John Lee, Ted Joe, and Clay Timothy.
Connie was immensely proud of the life she and John created on the ranch. Together they raised Charolais cattle, and many of their animals became champion show cattle for their sons at both the Weston County Fair and the Wyoming State Fair. She was an active member of the Weston County CowBelles, and one of her greatest joys was helping serve the CowBelles barbecue during fair week. She treasured the friendships she made and the opportunity to support the agricultural community she loved.
Beyond ranch life, Connie had a lifelong appreciation for beauty, history, and fine craftsmanship. She especially enjoyed collecting epergnes, cut glass, and antique furniture. Stepping into Connie’s home was like entering a more elegant era, where every carefully chosen piece reflected her appreciation for history and timeless beauty. Over the years, she became the local authority on antiques and collectibles and was always delighted when friends, neighbors, and fellow collectors sought her advice or asked her to identify a treasured piece. Sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm with others brought her great joy.
Connie will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family, her love of Wyoming ranch life, her generous hospitality, and the quiet grace with which she lived her life. She leaves behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and enduring love that will be cherished by all who knew her.
Connie is survived by her son, Ted (Marty) Ertman; her grandsons, Adam, Lee, and Cody; her granddaughters, Amanda, Jessica, and KC; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 62 years, John Ertman; and her sons, John Lee Ertman and Clay Timothy Ertman.
Graveside services were held on July 27 at Boyd Cemetery near Four Corners, Wyoming.
