Consider others’ opinions

The election is over. An odd sigh of relief met with a feeling of doom for some. Now that it’s passed and decisions made, ask yourself a quick question. Are you happy with the way you conducted yourself this political season? Any regrets about how you treated others based on their political views?

The amount of hatred and ugliness that consumes us every four years is astonishing. Did anyone actually grow up being told every other person in this country would share their same beliefs?

That’s the great thing about our country; we have the right to make our own decisions and they can be as different from the next person as we choose. So spewing hate just seems exhausting and unnecessary.

Now, I’m all for a healthy debate. Have an in depth discussion with someone of the opposing view, but with respect for the fact that you may not change their mind and that’s ok.

According to today.yougov.com, Americans in both political parties are most concerned with our healthcare. Knowing that this is a topic you could have a conversation about with anyone is a helpful start to discussing issues within our country.

Again, our opinions and beliefs differ from the next person’s, but that doesn’t mean we continually spew hatred towards each other. Consider listening, learning and understanding what it is that others find so important.
