The Newcastle Ministerial Association kicked off the week of the annual Christmas Appeal with a concert at the Weston County Senior Center on Sunday, Dec. 1. Pastors, singers, and the Newcastle Youth Bell Choir presented Christmas songs, carols, congregational singing, scripture readings and prayer. Dozens braved the cold and icy roads to participate as they worshiped and praised the Lord, Jesus Christ, ushering in the holidays for the city. The congregation also enjoyed a time of fellowship and finger foods after the concert.
“Tables will be set up Monday through Saturday at Bomgaars and Decker’s to accept donations for families in need.” Pastor Jon Anderson said. “This is the first year we’ve had it at Decker’s.”
While previous years a table was set up in the Family Dollar store, due to corporate hoops the association was unable to get one there this year. Anderson said that the relationship with Family Dollar was still good and it is hoped that next year they will be able to get a donation station there as well.
The donations will be split evenly between persons who are in want. The names of people and families can also be given at the donation stations. The donations and names will be collected from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day of the weeklong event. A collection was also taken at the concert for the appeal.
