Committed to providing you the information you deserve
After they created the three branches of government, they wrote in a free press immune from the power of that apparatus of government. That was nearly 250 years ago, and we still are so very fortunate to have a free press in our country.
One of the roles of a free press is to share information with our readers about how our government operates. In several cases, laws even require government entities publish information about the titles and salaries of employees; those are called public notices.
However, there are also rules about transparency of information that is available to the public in general, and those requests are usually handled through requests for information.
In that vein, The Sheridan Press has noted as an exception: junior colleges in Wyoming are not required to publish their titles and salaries of their employees. The Sheridan Press staff decided that information is just as important in this special district as it is from our school districts.
The Sheridan Press is committed to providing you — the reader, a taxpayer — as much relevant information about your government as we can possibly produce. The chart illustrating the titles and salaries of Northern Wyoming Community College District is why we are offering that information.
