Coming Together
The response of Weston County Health Services, the Newcastle City Council, the Weston County Commissioners, Weston County Emergency Management and the Town of Upton to the news of Roger Hespe’s, owner of the Newcastle Ambulance Service, retirement should be applauded. These entites have come together in a way that hasn’t been seen for years in Weston County and we hope this is the start to so much more.
For years readers of the News Letter Journal have seen stories outlining disagreements and confrontation between the county and city. Whether it was over the dispatch, law enforcement, landfills or the law enforcement center, there was an us versus them mentality.
What has occured when faced with the potential loss of the privately owned ambulance service is remarkable in comparison. All of these entities came together, recognized that this was an issue the entire county needed to consider, and have moved forward as a group, keeping everyone in the loop.
We hope this is the start to a great change in Weston County, and the end to the polarization between the local government entities.
We have all heard a lot about coming together,
specifically in reference to political parties, and this is the start to that venture on a local level.
Whether it is law enforcement, the landfill or ambulance service, working together for all 7,500 Weston County residents is the right move.
